Vegas For Families: Valley of Fire

Image
Vegas for families: Valley of Fire
We ventured off to Valley of Fire this trip so the kids could experience it. Remember to go early if you’re like us and go in the summer!  Valley of Fire is about an hour drive with one gas station stop/casino/store. Stop there if you need gas because you won’t have another chance for gas in the valley. You should also stop there because it’s unique, gifts, bathroom, and it’s interesting.
All of the adults had been before (a first for the kids), but this is a place you can visit numerous times and it is still amazing! There are so many things to see and different trails.  Best parts: I watched the kids climb around ( no pics of climbs because I’m mom-spotting from below every time). We found many lizards because it is still early and the kids hunted for snakes although we have a variety of feelings about finding a snake! We saw the petroglyphs again which is awesome too and elephant rock of course!  For pictures

Solo and So Deserved

Morning Breakfast: When solo you can eat anywhere YOU want. Eat at the bar and have a casual conversation with the bartender, the other solos, watch TV, or spend a few minutes doing nothing but sipping on coffee. Enjoy.

Summer Vegas

So many people love simply strolling up and down the Vegas strip taking in the sites, I wanted to share a few of those sites from a recent trip.

Vegas for Families: Adventuredome

Adventuredome at Circus Circus
This is part of a series of posts on enjoying Vegas as a family.
Please subscribe for more posts in family, solo, and adult vacation adventures.

Let’s just get any concerns or preconceived ideas about this first. I admit, I was a little concerned about going to Adventuredome. Is it clean? Is it old and showing it’s age and is it worth it to go there? Well, I was pleasantly surprised by this area for the kids. It’s clean, well organized, and so much fun! This is cheaper than going to our local fair or another park and my kids has a great time. My kids are 10 and 15. There were rides for them to do together and separately.

We walked to Adventuredome from The Signature which most people won’t want to do in July. If you do, be prepared to stop along the way and take pictures. It’s a wonderful joy watching the kids taking in all thats around them: people, buildings, fancy cars, etc. We even saw a TV show being filmed and got to randomly “walk through”. How co…

Summer 2019 Family Camping

Image
Family Camping
Ever try convincing a hotel to let you have 5 people in one room? You know you can fit. Your children can sleep 2 on a bed and one snug between you and your hubby. It's doable according to any traveling family who can't imagine allowing two kids to be in a room alone in a hotel room while the adults are occupying a separate room. Besides, two rooms is expensive!  This was one of our inspirations for finding a way to vacation as a family of 5 without breaking the bank or separating the family into two.

Camping allows for a lot of time outside. Besides hanging by the fire, playing frisbee or ring toss, we also love to get in the water. We pick campsites carefully and make sure they provide a water source ie pool, lake, pond, river. My family prefers the campsite on the river like Saco River in NH or the pond in Wareham.

 At Maple Park in Wareham, MA the campsite rents paddle boards and kayaks. Although not cheap, still less expensive than buying one unless you a…

Top 7 Vegas Packing List

Image
What to Pack for Vegas: Top 7
7 is a lucky number and we are talking about Vegas so of course I had to make this the Top 7, not 10!  #1 A well-packed purse - For the guys, you can use a wallet and pockets or ask your lady for some assistance in carrying these things.  * Your license
 * Chapstick
 * Sunglasses
 * Headphones for the plane
 * Snack for the plane
 * Water! You need to drink water!
* If you get motion sickness, seabands work wonders for me. You can find them in most stores in the aisle with the other #IDon'tWantToVomitVacation medicines.

#2 Money - Maybe this could be in the purse category, but it's so important it is listed separately. * Remember to include small bills to tip at the airport, the driver, the bell service at the hotel and anyone else who helps you arrive at your destination
* Credit card to leave on file at the front desk and in case of emergencies

Money Tips: ** I like to divide my money into envelopes for each day I'm there. I know others use …

The Park MGM

The Park MGM
Have you been to Monte Carlo in Vegas lately? Well, it's not the Monte Carlo anymore. It's The Park MGM.
Inside the Monte Carlo Summer 2012 (now The Park MGM)

The Monte Carlo was beautiful with fountains and statues at the main entrance on the strip. As much as I miss the fountains and statues, I do like most of the changes. It is convenient to walk from NYNY to The Park aka Monte Carlo. You can easily walk across from one property to the next which is great for us because these are two of our favorite properties.

Yes, that is snow! This is a picture on the strip from February 2019. Once your eyes get beyond the snow, you can see that this walkway is still a work in progress. Always sometime new because Vegas is always changing.

Between NYNY and The Park MGM is The Park. There are new restaurants inside and out, a giant arena, and a fun area outside to sit, eat, chat, walk, and just enjoy being with…

Couples: Living In the Moment in Vegas

Image
Take a lot of pictures, but not so many pictures you miss living the moment together...
I love taking pictures in Vegas. If you've never been before, you'll stop at every corner, on every walk-over bridge, and in the middle of all of the action just to capture another amazing image. Now that we've been many times, I admit we sometimes forget to capture the moments on the camera.

After a day that begins at 5 and ends after midnight, we crawl back to our room, kick off the shoes, and realize that we didn't take one picture all day. That's ok. Our memories are built on living in the moment. Sometimes we are just loving every minute so much that we forget to grab the phone/camera.

Couple's Shirts
Yup, these could be called silly, stupid, awesome.. yup awesome! There are so many things we do in Vegas that we can't do anywhere else so why not include funny couple shirts!  I don't care that they are silly. And, the best part, my husband doesn't seem to care…

Motherhood With Sneakers

I run to be…
This is Mother’s Day weekend and I am running. This is my first step to, what would be realized on mile 3, my humble run.

People ask so often Why do you run? and the answer always comes to me in the moment. After the muscles warm up, the music becomes old and just noise, the mind can open and today my mind flips to the page titled Mother’s Day.

As if the chapter begins with the conversation I had moments before about the stress of this weekend, all the questions flood the pages in my mind. What will we do? How will the kids behave? How much time can I really relax? Is there enough hours in one day to see all the mothers in our lives and still get to the grocery store, load the dishes, and rotate laundry? Do we really have a lacrosse game on Mother’s Day?

A run changes so quickly and so often; one minute the wind is pushing and causing the need to gasp air to breathe and with just a quick turn the same gusts of wind are propelling a runner’s legs through a new PR. A road th…
